Chiavassa Design Sustainable Products was founded in 2009 in Berlin/Germany, with a clear focus and dedication to sustainable and ecological projects from reclaimed materials.
Through skilful, sensitive design, Marco Chiavassa engages in projects in a varied range of fields, such as furniture and interior design, natural building and permaculture structures, with the intention to generate meaningful relationships between users and objects and finally to be respectful and mindful towards the environment.
Marco’s projects often emerge from diverse regional contexts, as the Designer and his partners live and move between South America, Germany and Italy. The enrichment of this cultural exchange is to be seen in the choice of materials and craftsmanship that Marco adopts in his projects.
Whether it is by upcycling typical elements from a certain region, using raw materials, or cooperating with local projects and craftspeople, the Designer’s preoccupation always relies in the creation of higher quality products that comply with the principles of social and ecological sustainability.
“Chiavassa Design” was born well before Marco Chiavassa christened its name in 2009. The Chiavassa name dates back to the 1940s when Marco’s grandfather produced one-of-a-kind furniture and sculptures in Argentina. This legacy was passed to his father who worked as an architect and designer since 1965 in South America and Italy, and his mother, who has been an artist since 1967. Together this is the foundation of Chiavassa Design — a rich family heritage of unique, well-designed pieces.
